Stephen Watson Stakeholder, Engagement Advisor of BC Hydro will be at the Campbell River Chamber Tuesday, June 27 to speak about how the John Hart Dam Project has evolved, potential job opportunities and large upcoming projects the public needs to know about.
“I remember the community enthusiasm with the John Hart project years ago and in working with the business community since 2011 so that people were aware of what’s coming, and to get prepared,” says BC Hydro’s Stephen Watson. “In this presentation we’ll take a look at how we’ve been doing with the fascinating John Hart project, and just as importantly, for the community to be aware that more large projects are proposed. It’s very early stages but once again, same questions, how should BC Hydro engage the business community and what may those project opportunities be? I would like to hear what people have to say. The message is the work is not going to all stop after the John Hart project. It looks to start up again with local economic opportunities around the end of 2020.”
“These are great opportunities for our community that enables local suppliers and contractors to compete for jobs and contracts” says Chamber CEO Colleen Evans. “Knowing what’s on the mind of businesses is key to supporting a thriving local economy.” further adds Evans.
The $1.1Billion project is on schedule for commissioning in the fall of 2018, and then the existing above groundworks will be removed into 2019. Discuss, what will happen after that?
Stephen will also talk about the proposed John Hart Dam Safety Upgrade Project, the Strathcona Dam Low Level Outlet Project and the Ladore Dam spillway Gate Replacement Project.
This event is open to the public. Seating is limited. Members of the Campbell River Chamber of Commerce tickets are $15 and non-members tickets are $25. Lunch will be provided. The event will be held at the Enterprise Centre, 900 Alder Street. Doors open 11:15 a.m. and it ends at 1:00 pm
