Looking for a small meeting space with food and flair? Steampunk Café and Coffee House on Third Avenue has finished the renovations of their conference room and it is ready for rentals.
The room can accommodate up to eight people and food service is available from the café. Rental rates are $20 an hour and $125 a day, from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. to book or learn more call Steampunk Café at 778-421-3000.

Buy-Low Foods on lower Johnston Road has also been renovating. New display cases in the deli section at the front of the store and refrigerated dairy and meat sections at the rear of the store expand those spaces. Deli staff also have more room to move around now.

The Golden Dragon has a new management team operating the restaurant, and that means a new team in the kitchen too. The Golden Dragon has new buffet menus with a new weekend brunch buffet on Saturdays and Sundays from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Lunch buffet is Monday to Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and the dinner buffet with 22 items is every night from 4:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Local hairdresser Moriah Chase has opened her own salon, Mossy Maple Hair Studio. Chase was raised in Port Alberni and did her training here in the Valley as well. She has worked in two local salons, but opened her own shop January 17.
“We are a Matrix-focused salon, meaning we only carry Matrix products,” says Chase, who is also a Matrix educator. D’sign Guy sign company has a new name and new owners. Bill and Sandy Scott purchased the company last month from 14-year owner Gary Ruissen and renamed it D’sign Guy & Gal. The have also changed location, moving further down 10th Avenue to 4348 – 10th Ave. (closer to Roger Street). The business is a new venture for the couple who have lived in the Alberni Valley for several years. They can design almost any cut vinyl signage.
