O’Reilly goes live at Prestige

With a few hundred national and international awards for writing and directing, when Terry O’Reilly hosts creative radio seminars, they typically sell out.

After a career as an award-winning copywriter, O’Reilly co-founded Pirate Radio & Television in 1990. A creative audio production company, Pirate has a staff of 50, with eight recording studios in Toronto and New York City. He is also host of the CBC Radio One/Sirius Satellite radio show The Age of Persuasion.

The chamber event begins with registration at 7:15 a.m., followed by breakfast at 7:30 and the O’Reilly at 8. Tickets are $28 (includes tax) for chamber members and $39.20 for non-members.

Successful You contest returns

Small businesses have the opportunity to nominate themselves to become one of B.C.’s best through the Successful You Awards Contest.

The ninth annual Small Business B.C. Successful You Awards Contest celebrates the top small businesses across the province. Entrepreneurs can compete in six categories, including Best Company, Best Concept, Best Employer, Best Green Business and, new to this year, Best Community Impact and Best Online Marketer.

For the first time, the contest will only accept self-nominations. Once nominated, the business owners will be tasked with gaining as many votes as possible through social media, word of mouth, e-mail or any other means possible.

The nomination and voting period ends Nov. 30 with the top-10 highest voted nominees in each category announced as finalists on Dec. 13. Finalists must then submit an application which judges will use to decide the top-five in each category, announced on Jan. 30.

The top-five finalists will present a 10-minute pitch to judges. The winners will be announced at a Feb. 28 ceremony at the Pan Pacific Vancouver.
