Body Quest Gym offers a variety of services to members in the community.
Melanie Johnson has been manager at the gym for four years.
She says the business, which opened in 2001, was built from a love for Golden and to make the community happy by offering them workout equipment and experience.
“It’s made out of love and a desire to bring something more to the community,” Johnson says.
Johnson says the inspiration to start the gym began because community members wanted a squash court. Over the years, they have expanded their services to now include a kids play area.
They have collaborated with other businesses, and have seen many famous fitness instructors and body builders come and go.
“I’ve met some wonderful people since I started working here. Some customers are happy, some have not been,” Johnson says, but the goal stays the same among the owners and management: To listen to the needs in the community and respond to them realistically.
For example, many members are asking for the gym to become a 24-hour operation, but with the cost to run the gym and maintain the equipment, it would be hard to keep membership costs low if they were to stay open for 24 hours.
Owned by Abdul and Shagufta Sattar, the gym has more than 100 active members and offers co-ed fitness rooms, a section for women only, aerobics, tanning, a pro shop, and steam rooms. Fitness classes are offered by Shape-Up Fitness at Body Quest, which is a new addition to day-to-day operations. Johnson explains having Shape-Up Fitness at Body Quest has been great as fitness instructor Nicki MacIntosh brings in new clients.
Body Quest offers memberships to community members of all ages and abilities. Memberships are available on monthly to annual terms. Rates and promotional offers can be found at www.bodyquestgymgolden.com
Johnson says one of the things she loves about managing the business is seeing familiar faces each day and knowing the services at the gym are making people happy.
