Dale Higgins, owner and operator of Shamrock Mtn. Building Ltd., operates his business in Golden, B.C. and in Calgary, Alta. with his brother Tim Higgins.
Through the company, they build residential and commercial structures, using “old world masonry” and working within a team of highly skilled trades people.
“We use an old-techniques approach and materials to create something that will stand the test of time,” Higgins says.
He says he enjoys small and large projects and working with architects and designers to build amazing spaces and visions for his clients. The company uses local resources from companies such as Dogtooth Timber Products, Golden Rock Products, and HR Pacific Construction, to name a few.
Higgin’s explains he’s not a “stand-around-and-point” kind of boss.
“I’m self-motivated and driven. I’m on the tools (and) in the thick of it all the time,” he says.
Some of the successes he’s found since launching his company is building great relationships with other people and trades in a town that allows for back country access to all the activities and locations the area offers.
Challenges to the business, he explains, can be finding skilled or hardworking people to help build the company.
“A solid portion of what we do is hard work and detail-oriented. It’s tough to find people to stick with it.
Operating crews in Calgary, bouncing between the two locations can be tough,” he says.
Higgin’s says he’s thankful to his brother Tim who helps keep the Golden scene “motoring along.”
