An old-time ice cream parlour with modern-day options, Yaldilicious brings yummy ice cream treats and build your own soups to the community.

The shop’s first week in business was a successful one, living up to it’s Scottish expression “Yaldi,” meaning excitement or joy.

Yaldilicious opened its doors to the community on May 18 with 30 delicious flavours of ice cream to choose from. The family-run business is owned and operated by Kendyn Mackenzie, who says the opening weekend went better than expected, and by the end of their first week in business, they sold 25 buckets.

“We’re grateful for the support from the community,” MacKenzie said.

From best selling ice cream flavours like New York cheese cake to classics such as rum raisin, Mackenzie is bringing in many different options to suit the tastes and dietary needs of the community. Lactose free options such as strawberry and chocolate macaroon and gluten-free soups provide options for those who can’t eat dairy or gluten products. Sorbet, soft serve, slushies, and flurries are also on the menu at Yaldilicious, and with a variety of different toppings and ice cream flavours to choose from, each trip to the parlour provides new treats to tickle your taste buds.

As far as favourites go, Mackenzie said caramel candy apple is his, and lemon sorbet is a hit. A classic kid favourite, tiger ice cream is on the menu as well as shark attack, cotton candy and cookie dough.

Building to suit community needs, Mackenzie and his family created a Facebook poll to determine what members of the community were looking for in a new business, and helped his family open the shop.

A built-in baby step for kids to use to choose their ice cream flavours and the soon to arrive chalkboard for community members to name their own flurries are two thoughtful and unique features at Yaldilicious.

An ice cream parlour isn’t complete without its milkshake options and Yaldilicious doesn’t fail to deliver. In addition to 30 flavours to choose from Mackenzie also has pina colada, peach, and root beer options available.

After a week in business, they are already growing, something Mackenzie intends to do with Yaldilicious. Summer hours will begin soon and the shop will be open seven days a week and open late to serve people attending shows at the Civic Centre. Yaldilicious is located at 828 10th Avenue S.
