After a few words from management and a quick ribbon cutting, customers streamed into Nanaimo’s new Buy-Low Foods store on Wednesday.
The store, located in University Village Shopping Centre in Harewood, opened at noon when store management, Buy-Low Foods executives and University Village property representatives cut the ribbon to let dozens of customers, shopping carts at the ready, swarm through the doors to cash in on opening-day bargains and fill out raffle tickets for chances to win Buy-Low gift cards, a Samsung tablet or a children’s shopping spree.
The store is the first Buy-Low Foods location in Nanaimo and is the shopping centre’s new anchor grocery retailer, filling a void left by Quality Foods, which moved to its new location in September.
Buy-Low Foods will hold an official grand-opening celebration Saturday, Nov. 10, from noon-3 p.m., with prizes and giveaways, free coffee and cake and more.
