The Castlegar and District Chamber of Commerce will host a free seminar next week for contractors who might have questions about collecting PST.
The seminar will feature guest speakers from the Ministry of Finance’s revenue division.
The primary focus of the seminars revolve around situations that contractors dealing with real property may face. Bookkeepers and accountants are also encouraged to come.
The seminars will take place Tuesday, Sept. 24 from 5 to 6 p.m. and Wednesday, Sept. 25 from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. at the Sandman Hotel.
Ministry of Finance representative Jacqueline Roodbol says the ministry is hoping to help contractors avoid some common mistakes and know how to access support if they need it.
“The purpose of the session is to outline how the tax applies to businesses that supply and install goods or that supply installation services like contractors, electricians, carpenters, plumbers and landscapers,” explained Roodbol.
The topics will include a basic overview of PST, contractors and real property, who pays the PST, supply and install situations, real property located outside of B.C. and PST exemptions.
“Small business makes up a huge portion of business in this province and we all have a vested interest in their success,” said Roodbol. “This is just trying to get people on the right track.”
