GreenStep Solutions is working with the Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen on a business education program, and asking Penticton business owners this question: How can we improve business recycling in the region?
Everyone knows that recycling is important in this day and age. But are we really taking action? Is your business struggling with recycling? Do you feel that pang of guilt when you toss a coffee cup in the trash? Do you want to improve waste diversion at your business?
There are two ways you can get your business involved: apply now for a free business waste audit ($500 value) and gain insight into your waste streams and learn what you can divert out of the garbage. A waste audit expert will come to you for a free waste audit and turn your trash upside down to see what’s really inside. This is not a test — simply a baseline data set for your business, and a stepping stone towards better waste diversion.
Apply by emailing andrea@greenstep.ca with the following information: your business name and physical address, type of waste hauling infrastructure (ie. roll-off bin, dumpster, rolling cart, etc) and why you would like a waste audit.
Join us for an upcoming Penticton Chamber BP Business Brainstorm on Wednesday, Aug. 23 from 4 to 6 p.m. A few times per year the chamber holds a brainstorm session at our local Boston Pizza with free snacks and one beverage for chamber members to have their say. This event will be open to all business owners courtesy of Greenstep and the RDOS. The last chamber brainstorm on infrastructure with the City of Penticton brought out over 50 business owners.
The RDOS and Greenstep invite local businesses to participate in a waste reduction brainstorm. Share your voice and help define a few key points: What are the barriers to recycling? What are your ideas for overcoming those barriers? How can business recycling in Penticton be improved? What kind of program(s) would you like to see in place to help you recycle better?
The workshop will also sculpt a framework for several GreenStep open house events to take place this fall. To register for the Chamber’s Boston Pizza Brainstorm, email Tara McMillan admin@penticton.org or call 778-476-3111
Brandy Maslowski is the executive director of the Penticton & Wine Country Chamber of Commerce. The chamber is here to know what’s on Penticton’s mind. We are here for local businesses when they need a champion and we work hard to grow the people that power Penticton.
