Chamber hosts city budget input open house

The Revelstoke Chamber of Commerce is hosting a Mar. 12 open house to gather input on the City of Revelstoke’s proposed budget.

The Revelstoke Chamber of Commerce is hosting an open house to gather input on the City of Revelstoke’s proposed budget.

Chamber executive director Judy Goodman said the event is designed to fill the void of public comments the city has experienced over the past several years. “We believe that people care but they’re just not voicing their opinion in the right way,” she told the Times Review.

The city has received only a handful of written comments over the past several years.

Chamber director Nathan Weston chairs the chamber’s Policy & Advocacy Committee, and has also been part of the Financial Focus Group appointed by city council to review the budget and provide input. He’ll be available at the Mar. 12 event to help guide chamber members, business owners and the general public through the process.

Goodman said the chamber board had approached many local business owners on the issue of increased property tax burden on local businesses, and have assembled ideas and suggestions for the city. The board wants your input on their ideas.

Mar. 12 open house from noon to 5 p.m. at the Visitor Centre at Victoria & Orton followed by a members’ Business after Business event from 5–7 p.m. at The Cabin.
