Chamber mingle set for Firepit BBQ

The Kicking Horse Country Chamber of Commerce is getting prepared for a tasty mingle.

In celebration of Chamber of Commerce Week 2012, the Kicking Horse Country Chamber of Commerce is hosting a mingle at the Firepit BBQ & Smokehouse.

“We’d like to see as many people come out as possible. It’s going to be great for networking. It’s a no-host bar, but the appies will be all free,” said Ruth Hamilton, manager of the Chamber office.

The mingle will go from 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday Feb. 22, with a presentation at 5:30 p.m.

“We did a ‘how are we doing’ survey, and we’ve actually got results already. And the person who we contracted out to do the survey will be there to do a presentation on what the results are,” said Hamilton. “And then Jordan Petrovics (president of the Kicking Horse Country Chamber of Commerce) will give a talk about, where do we go now.”

The survey, which was completed online by members of the Chamber as well as other people from the Golden business community, was designed to give the Chamber feedback about what they are doing right or wrong.

“We had more than 70 responses, which is pretty good. The more the better because we get a bigger glimpse of the whole membership that way,” said Hamilton.

“It’s great to know what people thing we’re doing well, and what they think we’re doing bad. Any feedback is good, because we are a representative organization, we represent our members. So it’s nice to know what they think, and where they want us to go.

“It we’re not doing something right it’s nice to know that. Or if we are doing something good and they want us to keep doing it, it’s nice to know that we’re going in the right direction.”

Chamber of Commerce Week, which is being celebrated by Chambers all over British Columbia, is aimed at getting awareness out in the communities about what the Chamber does.

The network of Chambers of Commerce across BC is the most influential business organization in the province.

As the key representatives of their business community to government, Chambers actively listen to business needs and continually articulate them to government.  The Chamber network extends to the BC and Canadian Chambers, which ensures that businesses are connected at Municipal, Provincial and Federal levels of government.

Chambers of Commerce support businesses through benefit programs, services and education.  Being community based means that Chambers are funded entirely by their members, events and sponsorship.  This community investment is what drives Chambers of Commerce to directly support and stimulate local economies, and work collaboratively to create vibrant communities around the province.
