The weather is still great and the hills and trails are calling! Drop by the Penticton Visitor Centre and pick up its unique and comprehensive Outdoor Recreation Map. The map offers topographical representation of the South Okanagan hiking/biking trails, sites for bird-watching, scuba diving and much more. It’s a resource you will use again and again. The Visitor Centre has just switched over to its shorter hours; now open Monday through Saturdays 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sundays 10 a.m. to 5 p m..

The first Penticton and Wine Country Business After Business is being held Thursday at Bogners of Penticton, 302 Eckhardt Ave. from 5 to 7 p.m. Be sure to bring your smile and your business cards and network till you drop. Chamber members attend for free and future chamber members can check it out for free as a member guest or pay $20 at the door. See you all there.

Penticton & Wine Country Chamber of Commerce’s fall lineup of Business Excellence Seminars gets underway Sept. 16 with Richard D. Covell facilitating an introductory session on Employment Law. Key points covered will be elements of the employment contract, basic non-negotiable terms, discipline and discharge, performance reviews and protecting yourself as the employer.  Then on Sept. 22, Allison Markin will facilitate “Using Facebook as a Marketing Tool – Do’s and Don’ts. Learn how to brand your Facebook page with graphics, links and functions similar to a website, and get a basic overview of how to use Facebook ads to target customers. Both seminars take place at the second floor boardroom of the visitor Centre at 553 Railway St. Seminar fees for chamber members are $45 (+HST) and non-members are $65 (+HST). Third Quarter, which is an online web tool that connects Canadians over 50 years of age to employment and volunteer opportunities, has just enhanced its website making it easier for business owners to create their online job postings. Now you need only enter the job title and the system will do the rest. The job database is comprehensive, with more than 25,000 job titles. Check out the site at www.thirdquarter.ca.

Penticton & Wine Country Tourism just launched ‘Uncover Penticton’, a photo contest challenge to all its Facebook followers to pit their best photo of Penticton against the competition. The winning photo will be featured on the front cover of next year’s Penticton & Wine Country Vacation Guide. Photos for ‘Uncover Penticton’ must be submitted by Oct. 10.
