The owners of a new marijuana dispensary in Chemainus are hoping to incorporate education as a key part of their business plan.
Green Aura opened Friday in the shopping plaza at 3055 Oak Street and already had close to 50 members by the end of the weekend.
“We are here to provide an alternative for people to come in and make choices for themselves based on their own health and wellness,” said Trevor Pewarchuk, who is a co-owner along with Cody Aginas.
Pewarchuk managed a dispensary elsewhere on the island and found there was opportunity in Chemainus.
“We know that the community is a lot older here so we’re really hoping to help benefit the seniors and the people that have been pushed aside by the medical system.”
The store provides lab-tested locally produced organic products. Some of the items, such as topicals, are none psychoactive and can be used for a medicinal purposes.
Green Aura has a bright and open storefront with art on the walls.
“We wanted to create an environment that felt very safe and welcoming almost like a spa vibe to it,” Pewarchuk said.
