Children’s book focuses on financial literacy

South Surrey-based Gifted Goose Learning to launch book

Children’s books are often whimsical, sometimes educational – but they seldom touch on the potentially important area of financial literacy among young ones.

South Surrey-based Gifted Goose Learning is planning to fill that gap with a new book, Pogo Pig Learns About Goal Setting, a spin-off of the company’s Pogo Pig Savings app.

It’s authored by Bryan Sommer, vice-president of Interconnect Financial Services, and Lindsay Nahmiache, a partner at Jive Communications.

Both the book and app, targeting the two- to five-year-old market, are designed to introduce the concept of goal setting as part of early education to help parents “kickstart their children’s future financial success before setting foot in a classroom.”

“I studied this concept in the entrepreneurship program at the University of Victoria – it had such a great impact on my life that I promised to teach it to my kids at an early age,” said Sommer, whose father, Frank, has been a financial planner in White Rock and South Surrey for 30 years.Pogo Pig Learns About Goal Setting is available on Amazon.com, while the Pogo Pig Savings app is available for free on iTunes.
