Circle Health Food has its doors officially open for the summer.
Previously Spring Health Foods, the store has switched hands and is now under a new name and new owner, Sarah Bourke.
“It’s been good,” said Bourke of the operation transition. “We’ve been open the whole time, we didn’t shut down, so people have seen the change in stages and have gotten used to it bit by bit.”
Circle Health Foods has undergone several interior changes over the past weeks. The office has been removed and is now the produce section, where fruits and veggies are on display. The former produce section near the front of the store has been converted into a seating area where customers can sit and relax.
“We want to bring back a ‘meeting ground’ sort of space,” sad Bourke. “When people come into a health food store they generally have interests, and people like to talk to other people with those interests, so we have a pleasant space for that now. It’s a ‘community’ sense.”
The inside has also been painted (mostly by Bourke herself), giving the interior refreshing, pale green walls to accompany the roomier store.
“Everything is bigger and brighter,” said Bourke.
Canada Day weekend also kicked off Circle Health Food’s revival of smoothies and other drinks for the summer — something once offered at Spring Health Foods.
The new product menus will rotate, offering classic, organic and supplement-infused goods.
As for the new name, it’s something of a reflection of health itself for Bourke.
“Circles have always represented balance and health,” said Bourke. “Things in nature often come in circles, and that’s sort of how I picture health to be. It’s a continuum.”
Circle Health Foods is still in its previous location on 7th Avenue. Its phone number has not changed and is still 250-342-2552.
