Comox Business in Action welcomes Kathy Penner as its new co-ordinator.
Penner is a well-known face in the Comox Valley and brings with her a long history of marketing and community development.
BIA president James Robinson, owner of Compass Adventures, states, “I have known Kathy for many years and she will be a great asset to the BIA.”
Tia Otter, owner of Otters Kitchen Cove, and vice-president of the BIA is “delighted to have Kathy’s energy, knowledge and commitment to assist the Comox BIA in improving the vibrancy of downtown Comox. With the Comox Cup around the corner, Kathy is a welcomed addition to our team in making the event is a success!”
Penner says, “I am looking forward to this opportunity to work with such a committed organization in promoting trade, commerce and an enhanced social environment in one of the most beautiful places in Canada. Water is always an attraction.
“Add to this the unique shops, a thriving array of restaurants and professional services. The possibilities are limitless, especially with over 160 BIA members working in partnership,” Penner adds.
An integral component of the BIA mission statement includes sponsoring and organizing promotions and special events to attract people to downtown Comox. A perfect example of this is the BIA’s partnership with Comox Recreation in hosting the Comox Cup ball hockey tournament from June 17 to 19. This is the same weekend as the annual Shellfish Festival at Marina Park, so downtown Comox will be a fun and busy place.
To enhance downtown Comox, the BIA co-ordinates the colourful moss baskets and the seasonal banners. Both of these projects will be installed by the end of May.
“Beautification is not the only thing that the BIA does for its members and patrons of the town,” Robinson continues. “Along with our own ideas and strategies we hope to solicit the vision of our elected officials of Comox and build a vibrant community that will be the envy of all.”
