The Comox Valley Chamber of Commerce installed three local business people as new members of its board of directors during their annual general meeting.
Mayor Paul Ives of Comox officiated the installation.
Community Futures Strathcona program manager Helen Furgale, Wedler Engineering’s Andrew Gower and Eagle Radio’s advertising consultant Tom McAllister join the board along with Tracey McGinnis of Blinds, Billiards and Baubles, who was re-elected to her position as director.
These new directors were installed amidst title changes for the board and Chamber staff.
Formerly the executive director, Dianne Hawkins will now hold the title of president and CEO. Board executives will now be referred to as chairs and vice-chairs including newly installed board chair Bob Scales.
This shift reflects changes being made to Chamber of Commerce boards throughout British Columbia and allows for a standardization of the governance model in the province.
Additional members of the board are first vice-chair Bill Anglin, second vice chair Robin Rivers, past president Jeff Lucas and directors Alan McWilliams, Lieut.-Col. Deborah McKenzie, Kip Keylock and Shelly Osachuk.
Currently with over 700 members, the Comox Valley Chamber of Commerce has been serving businesses and individuals in the region through education, advocacy, networking and business services for close to 100 years.
