A PRINCE GEORGE firm, R.F. Binnie and Associates Ltd., has taken a top award from the provincial transportation ministry for its design work into the just-finished Sande Overpass reconstruction project.
The award for design work and contract preparation was part of the ministry’s 12th annual Deputy Minister’s Consulting Engineers Awards.
A provincial press release indicated the firm was awarded a $300,000 contract for the project to improve traffic flow and safety at the T-intersection where the overpass meets Keith ave.
“R.F. Binnie and Associates presented several different concepts and then completed detailed design ahead of schedule, allowing construction to start before the fall weather set in,” the release continued.
“In addition to grading, drainage, municipal utilities, paving, and electrical elements, their design work included simulations of vehicle and pedestrian traffic for the two design concepts.”
These simulations showed existing conditions as well as future traffic increases, and were instrumental in facilitating both stakeholder input and the decision making process.”
Transportation minister Todd Stone said the award showcases “the excellent team work, forthright approach to challenges, and adaptability demonstrated by R.F. Binnie and Associates …”
