Abbotsford is home to a unique water bomber.

On Tuesday afternoon, Conair introduced its new technology for the Lockheed Electra L-188 at the Abbotsford International Airport.

The aircraft is the first in Canada to feature a 3,300 US gallon constant-flow delivery system.

The aircraft demonstrated how it is capable of dropping a long stream of water, or carrying out a long circular drop, rather than perform a single dump.

The development, designed by Conair, allows more effective drop patterns during fire bombing in wildfire suppression.

While there is another Electra L-188 in Quebec, the local aircraft is the only functional plane in Canada.

It is one of the aerial forest fire-fighting tools used by the Ministry’s Wildfire Management Branch.
