In response to the devastating earthquake and tsunami that hit Japan March 11, Coastal Community Credit Union has accepted a total of $43,652.51 in donations on behalf of its members, clients, employees and the general public in support of relief efforts.
The Canadian Red Cross will receive 100 per cent of the collected funds to support emergency health and the distribution of relief items to people impacted by this disaster.
After hearing the news of the devastation, Kel Koutecky, CCCU manager, premises, challenged his co-workers to match his personal donation of $100. In a matter of hours, more than $4,000 was raised by employees alone.
“Our employees are always eager to help a good cause, but they really went above and beyond in this situation,” says Allyson Prescesky, manager of community experience and communications. “The support shown by members, clients, employees, businesses and community members from the across the islands has been outstanding.”
