Credit Unions of Northern BC pledge support for Canadian Cancer Society Kordyban Lodge Campaign

The credit unions of Northern British Columbia have provided a $250,000 gift to the Canadian Cancer Society (CCS) Kordyban Lodge capital campaign.

Williams Lake and District Credit Union (WLDCU) is one of the seven “Northline” credit unions that participated in the gift.

“This donation has the potential to benefit all of Northern B.C., says WLDCU board chair John Morton.

“We have joined with our credit union friends throughout the region in the fight against cancer. By working together and combining our energy and resources, we move closer to winning the battle against this terrible disease.”

In 2010 more than 1,200 people from Northern B.C. stayed in CCS lodges in Vancouver, Kelowna and Victoria.

The Kordyban Lodge will provide accommodation for individuals and their caregivers travelling to Prince George for treatment at the BC Cancer Agency Centre for the North.

Northline credit unions gift of $250,000 is being dedicated to the Northline Credit Union Library. The library will provide Kordyban Lodge clients with a quiet reading space on the second floor of the 25,000-square-foot facility.

The gift from Northline credit unions comes close on the heels of the CCS’s public launch of the Kordyban Lodge Campaign, including the naming of the Novak Family Spiritual and Meditation Room, and the West Fraser Timber Lounge. The Kordyban Lodge also features an activity room, exercise facility, wig and breast prosthetics rooms, and a massage therapy room.

Anyone interested in making a donation or helping raise funds for the northern lodge should contact the CCS office in Prince George by phone 1-250-564-0885.
