DeHart: Keg has opened in purpose-built digs on Highway 97

New restaurant has 300 seats inside and a huge wrap-around patio that seats another 100.

The new Keg Steakhouse and Bar has opened at 1825 Underhill St. on the corner of Highway 97 and Underhill (across from Skogies).

The restaurant has 300 seats inside and a huge wrap-around patio with about 100 more seats and lots of parking. The décor is spectacular with rich dark brown tones, coloured accents, modern lighting and many spectacular pieces of art. There is both a bar and dining room area. The restaurant franchisees are Sam Brovender and Rob Haberman with the management team of Tyson Ralph (general manager), Nick Riise (bar manager), Joel Kruse (dining room manager) and Chris Collins (kitchen manager).

New to this Keg are wines on tap, blended exclusively for The Keg from Sandhill, Inniskillin, Calliope and Maverick. Also newly added to their menu are fish and chicken full plate entrees.

We tried the new Sesame Tuna and, of course, their famous Prime Rib, which were fabulous. The Billy Miner Pie is a staple for dessert. The menu is large and extensive, with lots to choose from. Open daily from 4 p.m.

Local personal trainer, Ryan Brown started writing personal training programs in 1998.

Ryan Brown

One of his pet peeves was paper work. So, on April 6, 2009 he incorporated Idol Fit Inc. as a personal training software company. Since Ryan went paperless, Idol Fit Inc. has grown into its own large fitness studio. Ryan has just finished a huge upgrade to his software to accommodate the revolutionary Google Glasses, which is the cutting edge in personal training.  He is now hands-free while training his clients all over the world, including Toronto, Calgary and Europe. Most trainers use tablets or phones. Ryan has intellectual property around his custom software stating he is the first trainer to use Google Glasses as an effective tool for on-line training. So, in a nutshell, he can train you in person at his gym, located at 105-1979 Windsor Rd., while training with your friend on the other side of the world. It’s almost like they are working out with you in person. www.IdolFit.com or call250-575-6587

The Maxine DeHart – United Way, Ramada Hotel Drive-Thru Breakfast is only two weeks away. It’s bigger and better than ever with more new sponsors coming on board and all the existing long-time sponsors going above and beyond. Matt Crowell of Get in the Loop, a first-time participate in the event, will be giving out $30 golf memberships to everyone who comes drives through and purchases a bag. Now the bag worth is going up and up. We will even be getting a visit from Mr. Coyote who will be welcoming everyone.

Andy and TJ of EZ ROCK 101.5 will be live, on the Ramada Hotel lot, right in front of Perkins. Ian and Christy of 99.9 SUN FM will be on Enterprise Way, so honk when you see them. I hear that they are really looking forward to being involved with the drive-thru for the first time.  Princess Auto will be putting some really great safety glasses in some of the bags and both Laura and Melanie Lyne will have some goodies for the ladies. Someone will win a beautiful Sleep Country basket full of goodies, for what else—sleeping!  And, our course, there will be treats for your pets that come thru the Drive-Thru, from Purina. Caramoomel will have some goodies in some of the bags.

Not sure if you have seen the poster and advertising for the event. Colleen Brown of Westkey Graphics did a tremendous job. Ash Burnell of Sun Valley Window Cleaners will be donating some window cleaning—who could not use that? Creative Mortgage has come on board with some gift certificates, and keep your eyes open for the wonderful clip of the Drive-Thru that Shaw TV did last week which will be aired soon.

Remember, we now have a walk-up line in front of the hotel in front of Perkins and there are also going to be some pretty Skookum bags for kids this year. Rena Krell at MacDonald’s dropped off a whole whack of neat kid’s stuff and gift certificates for the kid’s bags.  Remember to come into the Ramada off Enterprise Way where the fun begins. The legal beagles will be washing your windows again, with the help of Westside Warriors.  You will be seeing me in my pajamas going from one end of the hotel to the other in Erwin Egert’s Carts Plus Golf Cart that he generously donates to us every year. All monies raised stay right here in our community and not one cent of this entire event goes to any administration costs. Please open your hearts and your wallets.
