DELTA — Ask Jim Mathison what the key to success in business is, and you’ll get a quick answer.
“Culture is the key component in any business,” he says.
Mathison is president of Delta-based Prepac Manufacturing, one of North America’s largest Ready-To-Assemble furniture manufacturers and this year’s winner of the BC Export Award for Consumer Products.
The BC Export Awards pay tribute to innovative approaches of the province’s export companies in nine different categories.
Mathison said that the company is proud to have won the award while operating all aspects of its business from its three facilities in Delta.
“I could throw a dart at the map of North America and where it landed would probably be a cheaper cost base to operate from, but we like Vancouver, we are committed to being here and providing opportunities,” Mathison said.
Steve Simpson, founder and CEO of Prepac, says teamwork is key to the company’s successes.
“Everybody works very hard to make sure the job is done quickly, without mistakes, and for the benefit of the customers,” Simpson said. “It has taken many years to get here. It’s like having an overnight success, but it took 38 years.”
Prepac is located at 6705 Dennett Pl, Delta.
