Delta Dairy distributor opens new centre

National dairy cooperative Agropur opened the doors of its new distribution centre in Delta today to give suppliers, customers and city officials a look at the state of the art facility

The distribution centre will serve the cooperative’s Natrel Division and the Island Farms brand, delivering dairy products to locations throughout British Columbia and Alberta. The 26,000 square foot distribution centre will employ 65 people.

“Agropur has been operating in Delta for several years, and have enjoyed a great working relationship with the city,” said Mike Dick, Vice President Western Canada, Agropur, Division Natrel. “The new distribution centre is part of Agropur’s growing commitment in British Columbia.”

Each month, Agropur expects to distribute 2 million litres of dairy, including 180,000 litres of frozen and 1,820,000 litres of cooler dairy products, utilizing the facility’s 20,000 square feet of cooler and freezer space.

“Delta is the perfect location for us,” said Dick. “The proximity to the Island Farms’ production facility on Vancouver Island, and the city’s central location in the Lower Mainland made Delta an obvious location to build our distribution centre.”

While relatively unknown in this province, Agropur is a dominant player in the Canadian dairy industry with annual sales of $3.4 billion, over 1,000 products and 5,500 plus employees.

City officials, customers and suppliers toured the brand-new dairy distribution centre at 8198 92nd St., Delta.

Founded in 1938, Agropur cooperative is a Canadian produces brands such as Québon, Oka, Sealtest, Natrel, Island Farms, Yoplait, La Lacteo, Trega and Schroeder.
