Doggie Valentine’s Day portraits raises $2,000 for Surrey SPCA

Organizer of the South Surrey event helps top up donation for the animal-protection agency.

Twenty-two dogs of different breeds, shapes and sizes got their Valentine’s Day portraits taken with their owners last weekend during a South Surrey fundraiser for the Surrey SPCA.

Photographer Ashleigh Wells posed the pooches with roses and other Valentine’s-themed props for pictures to take home.

Sunday’s “I woof you” event – organized by home builder Adera at their Centre-Grandview Corners sales centre at 160 Street and 24 Avenue – drummed up $408 in donations for the animal-protection agency, which the company will top up with an additional $1,592 to bring the total amount to $2,000.

Spokesperson Rachel Thexton said the Surrey branch of the BC SPCA is especially in need of support after a ringworm outbreak closed the facility for an extended period in 2011.

The branch is now re-opened but still faces a backlog of adoptable pets from the 2011 outbreak.
