Members of the Mission Downtown Business Association met last week for the organization’s annual general meeting.
During the meeting, a total of nine new directors were elected to serve on the board.
Also on hand was Jay Jackman, manager of development, engineering and projects for the District of Mission, who made a brief presentation on the coming downtown revitalization project.
He told the crowd he is working with a deadline of late summer, early fall of 2018 to complete the project, though it is not set in stone.
“It’s our job to make it happen,” he said, adding it is like renovating an old house so he expects some challenges.
One question that came from the audience was how the work would be completed?
“The conceptual plan is to do it block by block. The timeline is, for this kind of work, really weather permitting. We anticipate starting on the first block in early spring and moving through it as quickly as we can.”
Jackman also said the construction, conceptually will include a lot of night work.
In September of 2016, it was announced that the district would invest $3.5 million into a First Avenue streetscape improvement project in the downtown core. The project will span three blocks, from Horne Street to Grand Street.
