The Downtown Williams Lake Business Improvement Area’s new mascots are on the loose in downtown Williams Lake.
If you see one, take a selfie and you could win a $250 shopping spree.
“We were hoping to bring the organization into the 21st century with the social media contests and hashtags and appeal to the younger audience,” said DWLBIA marketing director Vanessa Moberg.
“With this contest we’re looking to get our members from the BIA, which are businesses, shops, stores and restaurants in the downtown, to be part of a contest that would get people out and into the doors just sort of exploring the downtown.”
The DWLBIA’s mascots — Oly, Mac and Barney Will-Yum — as the story goes, were heading into the downtown to do some hsopping when they got separated from each other. Now, the DWLBIA needs your help locating them in the form of a scavenger hunt.
The hunt is open to everyone in Williams Lake.
If you see one of the Will-Yums in a downtown location, take a selfie with them and post it with the hashtag #downtownwilliamslake to Facebook, Instagram or Twitter for a chance to receive a $250 downtown shopping spree.
Moberg said the foxes are quick, though, and will be moving locations ever Thursday until June 28.
If you take a selfie with all three you will get three entries into the contest, and bonus entries if you find them in their new locations.
“We’re hoping to kind of boost community and morale in advance of our big event, the Four Directions Festival, coming up [Stampede weekend] June 30 from noon to 5 downtown,” she said. “We’ve got lots of things planned for right after the parade.”
