Ever wanted to be a ‘circus freak’? Or maybe just take your workout to new heights?
Glenny Davidson has what you’re looking for.
On Friday, March 1, Davidson is opening Circus Freaks, an all-inclusive circus school and aerial fitness facility in Parksville.
Davidson began taking pole fitness classes in 2011 at the age of 38. Two years later, she started competing and has won multiple competitions, both provincially and nationally. She has been a pole fitness and gymnastics instructor since 2013 and has taught individuals of all body types and fitness levels from ages ranging between three and 87 .
“My goal is to change the stigma surrounding pole and aerial fitness and encourage people of all ages and sizes to join in on the fun.” said Davidson, “The most common excuse we hear is that people feel they are too out of shape or overweight to take part, but that’s why they need to try. All it takes is one class to become hooked.”
Circus Freaks (425 Stanford Ave. East, Unit 106) offers pole, hoop, silks, stretch/flexibility and children’s classes to start. Classes range from beginner to advanced levels. Private training sessions and events for birthday parties, bachelorette parties and more are also available.
Circus Freaks is open to all ages and all levels of experience and physical capabilities. Davidson said students are encouraged to grow and advance at their own pace.
“My favourite thing about aerial fitness is that we embrace the things that make you unique. We cater your fitness journey to encourage growth while cheering you on every step of the way,” she said. “Being a part of our little family is like having your own personal cheerleading squad.”
In addition to daily classes, Davidson has been busy organizing the third annual Island Talent Pole Show (date TBA) in Errington.
This evening of fun is designed to encourage both beginner and advanced performers to demonstrate their skills in a themed evening of entertainment and laughs.
“So far the annual Island Talent show is our only one,” said Davidson. “But I have big plans for the future.”
