Fernie’s Tiny Homes by Snow Valley Lodging, owned by Jason Burt and Veronique Roy, held its grand opening on October 8. Mayor Ange Qualizza attended the celebration and cut the ribbon, along with approximately 25 well-wishers and supporters. The Snow Valley Lodging outdoor social space had its fire pit ablaze, around which people gathered in Tuesday’s heavy snowfall.
“We are here today to celebrate the hard work of Snow Valley Lodging owners Veronique and Jason,” Qualizza said. “Their entrepreneurship and investment in Fernie are something we should all be thankful for. I am always amazed at innovative solutions to make business stay relevant, and here we have a tiny home hotel reinvigorating their business model. At a time right now where both accommodators and local governments have experienced serious disruption due to short term rentals, Jason and Veronique decided to meet the challenge head-on and create a beautiful product that people are demanding.”
The attention to aesthetics and functionality on the project has created a visual attraction, explained Qualizza.
“Signaling that Fernie is a unique place, a place you want to be,” she said.
The mayor said she has many other communities asking about Fernie’s groundbreaking tiny home hotel project.
“They see it as an opportunity for their own accommodation needs, whether it be temporary housing, workforce housing, or simply a new hotel product,” said Qualizza.
Burt thanked everyone for their support.
“I’d like to thank my mother and father who came all the way from England,” he said. “And my beautiful wife and partner in business. We arrived in Fernie in 1999 and purchased Snow Valley Hotel, and embarked on 20 years of adventure. Prior to purchasing we had been on adventures of our own, through South America and Nepal. We hiked to Everest Base Camp.”
