Best friends and business partners Jeannie Rudyk and Melanie Engelbrecht helping locals meet their fitness goals

Helping you meet your fitness goals is at the heart of The Remedy Your Fitness Rx in Williams Lake, and making sure you have fun along the way is their truest vision.

Jeannie Rudyk and Melanie Engelbrecht welcome a growing number of clients who love the city boutique gym with the small-town friendly feel.

The selection of classes they offer are completely individualized for your maximum success. You can experience the exciting Body Pump — a barbell workout for anyone looking to get lean, toned and fit quickly. Participants can enjoy gentle and healing Restorative Aerial Silks — a wonderful class that floats you through gyro-kinetic motions.

There is also TRX suspension training for functional strength and fitness, and extra classes like Step Aerobics are offered at certain times of year to mix things up and keep things fresh for their members.

Remedy also offers POUND to its members, where you use Ripstix — lightly weighted drumsticks engineered specifically for exercising. Instead of listening to music, you become the music in this exhilarating full-body workout.

Best friends and business partners, Melanie and Jeannie, work with an extensive background in fitness and instruction. They wanted to take the best of what they have learned throughout the years and bring it to Williams Lake.

“We wanted to create the coolest place, give the best types of classes out there and offer the finest services anywhere,” Jeannie said.

“Melanie was the person I needed to meet to make this venture happen. We both have a major passion for health and fitness. It’s been a blast and a dream come true to bring this to our community,” Jeannie says, “and what is really cool is that it is completely unique to Williams Lake. In fact, there is nothing like it in B.C.”

She said they had been looking for a place to rent for quite some time, and when they walked into the building that used to be Haines Office World at 83 2nd Avenue South, Melanie knew immediately that it was the perfect space for them.

They found the space in November and quickly prepared the space to open eight weeks later.

“We renovated, decorated and had the equipment in place and the classes ready to roll.” Jeannie said.

“I really wanted this for this community for a long time; the response has been amazing,” Jeannie continued.

“We try to give people everything they could ever want. They get a towel and mat service, reverse osmosis water, premium coffee and state-of-the art equipment and classes: big city amenities with small town friendly service.”

They carry supplements and shirts that are proving to be very popular. “We wanted to create a fitness community where people feel like they belong. Where they are comfortable going and where they feel like they are part of a real fitness family. It’s not a competition – you look out and people are laughing and talking and having fun,” she said.

“I like seeing someone working hard to master a skill on the aerial silks and everyone else is cheering them on. I love it when they succeed.”

One of the most satisfying things Remedy provides is free fitness classes at Williams Lake Association for Community Living. “The woman who runs it comes to our classes, and asked us if we’d do it, and we said, ‘Of course, we’d love to help out in the community.'”

Classes at the Remedy are individualized to help clients best meet their fitness goals. “We prescribe people their workouts according to their needs and goals. We meet with them for an hour first, and do a flexibility and functional assessment, find their nagging injuries and work with clients to address them. We give them videos, monitor their progress and keep a file on them to help them work toward their goals,” Jeannie stated.

“We don’t just want to get them fit, but also keep them going forever.”

This is a boutique gym, one completely focused on client satisfaction and success. “We want to create a relationship with every client, to help them meet their fitness goals,” she said. “You will be more likely to continue working toward your goals when you have support, a great atmosphere and excellent results,” she added.
