FOODIE FRIDAY: The Black Antler’s ‘something-for-everyone’ menu offers spins on the classics

Owner Dan Prokosh called Penticton a perfect fit for their vision

The Black Antler opened its doors on Winnipeg Street at the end of August.

Owner Dan Prokosh described the restaurant and cocktail bar, with a long list of creatively named drinks, as having a “something-for-everyone menu.”

“We offer twists and spins on old-school classics,” he said. “If you want sandwiches, we’ve got sandwiches. If you want good, juicy, handmade burgers, we have those. If you want ribs and southern cooking, we’ve got that. We wanted to be your all in experience.”

He and his wife decided to close two of their restaurants in downtown Vancouver and move to Penticton, he said, because Prokosh grew up in the Okanagan. He has fond memories of spending summer at his grandparents’ place in Okanagan Falls, he said.

They considered Kelowna but felt it was too commercial and competitive.

“We felt Penticton was a city we could grow with, instead of trying to catch up to,” he said. “Business has been fantastic. People of Penticton have been very supportive of us. We look forward to growing with the community over the years to come.”

One of his favourite dishes is their southern style pork ribs.

“A lot of love goes into them and I’ve had nothing but compliments over the years, and I’m looking forward to entering them in Rib Fest next year. We like our ribs. We feel like we do a great rib here.”

The Black Antler is located at 215 Winnipeg St.
