A free program that will reduce energy consumption, save money, and help the environment is being offered and Township of Langley businesses are encouraged to take advantage.
Energy assessments are being provided through a partnership between the Province of BC’s LiveSmartBC: Small Business Program, the Retail Council of Canada, and City Green Solutions.
“This is a free, no obligation first step towards seeing where your energy dollars are being spent,” said Langley Township community energy manager Ryan Schmidt. “It looks at businesses’ lighting, heating, and cooling systems and offers technical suggestions to help save money.”
“This is a great opportunity for our businesses, and right in line with the Township’s mandate to reduce energy consumption in our community,” Schmidt said.
“I’d like to see many businesses go through this.”
Through the program, business will receive a walk-through energy assessment from City Green Solutions that will include a measurement of lighting level efficiency. A customized report recommending energy saving upgrades and outlining available rebates will be prepared, along with estimation of how long it would take for the upgrades to pay for themselves through energy savings.
City Green, an independent, non-profit group, is not affiliated with specific contractors or suppliers and does not sell products, but will provide a list of BC Hydro and Fortis BC approved suppliers who can help with the improvements.
The energy assessments are a natural next step up from the Climate Smart Program, which saw a number of Township of Langley businesses learn how to measure and reduce their greenhouse gas emissions to boost financial savings and marketing.
“Given the documented savings seen by businesses that participated in Climate Smart, I would highly recommend our companies give serious thought to signing up for this free assessment,” said Township economic development manager Gary MacKinnon.
“Not only will businesses save energy and money, this service will help improve their retail environments.”
