The Surrey Board of Trade won the gold award for a leadership initiative at the Canadian Chamber of Commerce Convention in Kelowna Saturday.
The top award recognizes the Surrey board’s HR Solutions for Immigrant Talent Initiative, in which it partners with Douglas College.
Addressing the skills gap, the employer-focused program assists small- and medium-sized businesses in the Surrey region in integrating immigrants into the labour pool, the board said in a release.
Funded by the federal and provincial governments and the B.C. Employer Innovation Fund, the program involves workshops, training, resources navigation and human resources.
