Golden company finally finds a home base

After years of searching, Golden Transfer has found a building that allows them to stay in Golden.

After years of searching, Golden Transfer has finally found a building to call home. The overnight freight company has been looking for a building in town that could accommodate them for four years, and they are more than relieved to have finally found it.

“It’s been tough to find a place, that’s why I’m so excited to be here now. We just couldn’t find property,” said Ken Lehmann, owner of Golden Transfer. They have moved into the helicopter hanger, previously owned by Canadian Helicopters.

Golden Transfer has been operating in Golden for several years, and owned by Lehmann since 2005, at their now previous location. But the size of the building and surrounding area meant the company was having to turn down jobs.

“I was hoping to buy land and go build exactly what I want, but this isn’t far off from what I had drawn out… it’s actually better than I would have planned it in some respects.”

For years, Lehmann has been trying to move product from the West, Vancouver via Kamloops, and now he has the space to do it.

“Doing a better job of what we’re doing is the biggest thing, and having a place of our own to do it,” he said.

At the moment, Golden Transfer has 10 trucks, 15 drivers, and a total of 20 employees, but is planning to expand, and already has advertisements out for new drivers.

“I’ve already got ads out, but that’s only if I find the right help. These guys I have right now are all doing a bang-up job, and that’s what I need to find,” said Lehmann.

The company is as happy as can be, but Lehmann wanted to make sure the Town Council and the community would be equally happy with the move.

“I wanted to make sure that the Town was ok with us getting to it, because we have to travel through town, we always have, but now we travel a little bit further,” said Lehmann.

The Golden Transfer trucks will now have to drive a little further through town to get to the building, which is located on the way to the airport.

“The trucks aren’t fast, and they don’t travel much during the day anyway. I’ve heard so much positive from people. They’re just happy that we’re finally getting going here,” said Lehmann. He also had Coun. Chris Hambruch discuss it with council to make sure it met their approval.

The new building will be completed its renovations by the new year, and in the meantime Lehmann and his staff are working very hard to make sure that the move does not disrupt the business.

“People won’t even know we’ve moved unless they come down and see us,” he said. “So far the move has been seamless.”

The best feature of the new space, according to Lehmann, is that it is still in town.

“The community has always supported us, and we want to support the community by staying here. There’s no end to the potential where we can go now. For a small town like Golden, it’s nice to have a business like this that’s done well and done right.”
