Save-On-Foods is tickled green.

The grocery chain has announced it is the first Canadian retailer to be ranked green by Greenpeace, making it number one in the Canadian supermarket sustainability rankings for 2012.

The ranking reflects the company’s progress in expanding its offerings of sustainable seafood products, discontinuing red-listed items such as open-ne, pen-farmed salmon and educating its staff, suppliers and customers about sustainable seafood products. In addition, Ipsos Reid named Save-On-Foods as B.C.’s top environmentally friendly grocer for the company’s commitment to eco-friendly choices such as store recycling, energy-efficient stores and emphasizing western Canadian products.
