Surrey’s newest food store, Fresh St. Farms, turns it up a notch this month with its first-annual Chili Cook Off event this Saturday, March 8 at 15930 Fraser Hwy.
From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., the community is invited to sample a variety of chili dishes from six local teams, including cooks and chefs from the Lower Mainland, Surrey firefighters from Fire Hall 18, and Fresh St. Farms’ own Stu Smith.
Customers vote for their favourite chili, and the winning team will be awarded an inaugural chili trophy.
“We are really excited to welcome the community to our first event at Fresh St. Farms,” said David Sherwood, director of Fresh St. Farms.
“Fresh St. Farms is a destination for great, fresh, and local food. We thought chili is definitely something that can be enhanced with quality ingredients. It is also a very versatile dish. We look forward to seeing what the teams come up with.”
In addition to the chili, students from Holy Cross Regional High School are set to perform a few jazz numbers throughout the day. Other family-friendly offerings include face painting, a mini-golf putting station, and various food demonstrations from Canadian vendors.
Fresh St. Farms is located in Surrey’s Fleetwood Village and aims for an “urban farmer’s market” experience.
Fresh St. Farms have a wide variety of locally sourced foods, fresh produce, organic foods and specialized food stations within the store.
