A Vernon human resources professional has just been recognized as one of the industry’s rising stars.

Catherine Bariesheff, of Tolko Industries, has been included in HRD Canada magazine’s Rising Stars list, recognizing 31 young professionals who are leading HR into 2017 and beyond.

HRD asked its readers to nominate young human resources professionals who they believe are performing outstandingly in their profession.

The end result is a collection of up-and-coming stars, all who have less than 10 years of experience in the industry.

“Everyone on the list demonstrated clear career progression which made them stand out from all the rest,” said Iain Hopkins, managing editor of HRD Canada.

“From tackling complicated IR/ER challenges to being ‘go-to’ experts for CEO’s and senior executives, this year’s rising HR professionals are adding value to their respective companies and to the industry as a whole.”

In terms of Bariesheff, HRD Canada indicates that her role in recruitment at Tolko is crucial.

“She has developed recruitment training modules to improve hiring competencies. Her expertise in the hiring and training of foreign workers has been invaluable, particularly in processing the required labour market impact assessments,” says the article.

“Bariesheff has also contributed to the increased use of technology for internal communications and recruitment, such as implementing a recruitment app to monitor candidates’ applications, developing content for iPad kiosks used at career fairs, and centralizing the student recruitment process.”
