An independent power producer calling itself the Port Edward Power and Water Corporation (PEPWC) has acquired the land and infrastructure for the Kloiya and Diana Lake dams

“We’re in the middle of doing that and of transferring the water licence to the company. It is still early on, but we are planning some open houses coming up,” said Elton Tanner of PEPWC.

The two dams, which were formerly used to supply water to Watson Island, are red flagged by the province, but Tanner said he doesn’t see the dams as being unusable.

“They’re not as problematic as thought. We think they were red flagged because nobody has done much with them for 12 years … we think the dams are in good shape,” he said.
