Smart phone users looking for directions or a good local restaurant now have a new tool at their fingertips.

Smart phone users looking for directions or a good local restaurant now have a new tool at their fingertips.

Released by Kootenay Rockies Tourism, the KOOTENAYapp  offers pocket-friendly travel information for communities in the region. It’s compatible with iPhones, iPads and iPods and free to download at Apple’s iTunes store.

The app will offer notifications about upcoming events happening around the Kootenays as well as current ferry schedules, road reports, maps and directions to local sites. Another feature is the “near me” function, which literally tells the user what’s in a nearby area. Using the app, travellers can look at photos and video of local places or even make reservations.
