The Kootenay Co-op has named Allan Broom its new general manager, effective June 1.
Broom has served since 2013 as CEO of Enjoy Vacations Management Ltd., a specialized online booking service and package wholesaler for mountain resorts in Norht America. Before that, he worked in Romania at SC Green Synergy SRL, where he provided management consulting services.
Broom has a strong connection to the Kootenays, however. His family has lived in the area since the early part of the 20th century. He recently moved to Nelson from Vancouver to take part int he area’s mountain lifestyle and be closer to family.
“As a business leader, my focus has always been the triple bottom line of environmental, social and financial sustainability,” Broom said in a news release. “The Kootenay Co-op is a pioneer in creating the unique conditions that drive Nelson’s economic and social development. I look forward to guiding our transition to the new store.”
The co-op is expected to move from its present home to the new Nelson Commons site on the opposite end of Baker St. in the fall. Between now and move-in, the co-op says it will hire 25 to 35 more people in its store.
Broom replaces Paul Kelly, who has been acting general manager for the past year, and will stay on as assistant general manager.
