The Sears Home store in Abbotsford is among seven sites across Canada that will become Leon’s Furniture locations this year.
Sears Canada Inc. recently made the announcement, saying that three other B.C. locations – Langley, Richmond and Victoria – will go through the same change, as will the Brampton, Etobicoke and Mississauga stores in Ontario.
An eighth Sears Home location in Moncton, New Brunswick will become The Brick.
Leon’s will take over the leases from Sears on June 1, except in Brampton, where the changes takes effect July 1.
The furniture store expects to open at the new locations in September.
In a press release, Sears Canada executive chairman Brandon G. Stranzl said having Leon’s take over the leases will make Sears a “stronger company.”
“Our focus is on converting each and every customer at stores with less efficient footprints into customers of our more efficient and best-performing stores,” he said.
Sears’ network currently includes 162 corporate stores and 144 Hometown stores.
The Sears Home store in Abbotsford is located at 1425 Sumas Way, while a Sears department store – not affected by the change – is located in Sevenoaks Shopping Centre.
Leon’s Furniture is a Canadian retailer that sells furniture, appliances and electronics.
