The Burns Lake Public Library Association held its Annual General Meeting (AGM) on March 10.
Despite minimal attendance, the association was able to elect its board of directors for 2014. Maria Sandberg, Debbie Brooks, Lisa Mason, Andrea Wilmot, Sashka Macievich, and Michael Riis-Christianson will guide the library in the coming year. Several seats remain vacant, and anyone interested in joining the board can contact the library at (250) 692-3192.
The 2014 executive will be chosen at the board’s next regular meeting.
Established in 1944, the Burns Lake Public Library has an annual budget of approximately $220,000, and serves a population of 6,635. Nearly a third of all residents in the operating area hold active library cards.
In 2013, the library recorded a total of 31,200 person visits, during which time 51,463 items were borrowed.
In an effort to meet the growing trend for technology-based lending materials, the library also has a collection of eBooks and audiobooks. Last year, patrons borrowed 1,577 of these items.
