Liquid Stone Studios of Yellow Point was awarded a 2019 Torch Award from the Better Business Bureau in the masonry and stonework category earlier this month.

Businesses must be nominated by their clients for Torch Awards. Liquid Stone Studios won a Torch Award in the same category in 2011. Ian Wyndlow, founder of Liquid Stone Studios, said it nice to get a good reception from his clients.

“At least four of our clients nominated us, which was awesome,” Wyndlow said.

At the award ceremony, the judges emphasized how difficult it was to pick a winner for the masonry and stonework category. Wyndlow said only two companies outside the Greater Victoria area were nominated.

Liquid Stone Studios specialized in precast concrete creations. Since they started back in 2006, they have worked on fireplaces, counter tops, bathrooms, and commercial projects. Wyndlow said that the company is looking to work on more outdoor living projects next year.

Concrete is a versatile material, and lends itself to a variety of forms. Wyndlow goes beyond usual concrete formations — creating many artistic pieces for his clients.

“That’s why I called my company Liquid Stone Studios — the concrete is a liquid and takes the shape of the form we make,” Wyndlow said. “Some of our clients have given us complete green lights to do whatever we think is cool. It’s both fun, and daunting at the same time. I hope what I like they like too.”

Wyndlow has created pieces with inlay of fossils, ferns, and compass roses. Liquid Stone Studios also offers personalized services, like inlaying the tigers eye jewelry of a client’s grandmother into a piece.
