Local business wins snow removal award

A local excavating and snow removal business has been honoured with an award for its snow removal work last season.

K. Leigh Precision Earthworks won the B.C. Rookie of the Year award from Global Road Maintenance Inc., which has about 400 contractors working around British Columbia.

K. Leigh Precision Earthworks co-president Kegan Leigh said his business won the snow removal Rookie of the Year award out of around 80 other new contractors working for the organization. He said last winter was the company’s first season doing commercial snow removal.

“The year before I did a few driveways, but this was my first year doing it for commercial,” he said.

In the summer, Leigh and his crew run excavators on various projects.

“We do excavating and anything along those lines – lots of hard scapes, retaining walls, landscaping and excavating for additions and new homes.”

He said he had a crew of four for the summer, but is down to two for winter, along with his wife Farren, who is co-president of the business along with her husband and does the company’s book keeping.

K. Leigh Precision Earthworks is gearing up for its second year of snow removal for Global Road Maintenance, and Leigh said the company is also potentially picking up a few more contracts around town.

He said he and his crew are ready in case of an early season.

“We saw a little bit of snow [last week], it’s in the mountains and seems to be melting off, but we were talking about it with Global Road Maintenance, about getting set up in case we need to do any sanding and salting in the near future, and we are ready to go,” he commented.
