Remember the glow-in-the-dark stars you stuck to the ceiling when you were young?

Remember the glow-in-the-dark stars you stuck to the ceiling when you were young?

CORE Landscape, in Cumberland, would like to introduce you to the more grown-up, powerful version of these stars: Core Glow.

With advancements in materials science, industrial-strength phosphorescence is now possible. These non-toxic, indestructible solar-charged glow stones last more than 20 years, charge within 20 minutes, and provide a glow exceeding 12 hours.

To boost morale and to offer some science-based fun for new homeschoolers during the coronavirus pandemic, Core Glow published a downloadable Light Pollution Science exploration lesson plan and kit that can be safely followed while practising social distancing. The plan is based on the use of Core Glow stones to reduce light pollution around sensitive ecosystems such as bioluminescent bays, and research centres such as astrophysical observatories. By using Core Glow stones, you can reduce light pollution and experience better visibility of the universe around us. The kit will guide you through light pollution science and light pollution reduction around your home.

Phosphorescent stones can be used to create indoor and outdoor installations such as backyard sanctuaries, gently lit trails, countertops, flooring and ceilings. The stones are compatible with building materials such as concrete and gravel.

“Core Glow stones shine gently throughout the night, reminding us that there is always a flicker of hope in the dark,” a news release states.

Now, more than ever, is the time to support the scientists, inventors and innovators working hard to make the world a better place. Staying at home and adhering to social distancing guidelines is a powerful act of care and trust in science.

“The scientists of the future are at home right now. We can encourage and inspire these next generation of scientific leaders, starting with the exploration of your own backyard using Core Glow’s light pollution research kit.”
