SURREY — Margaret Trudeau will be the keynote speaker at a business awards event in Surrey on Thursday, March 9.
At lunchtime that day, the Surrey Board of Trade will host the 8th annual Surrey Women in Business Awards at the Sheraton Vancouver Guildford Hotel.
Trudeau’s son, Justin, was the guest speaker at the event in 2015, before he was elected Prime Minister of Canada.
In an event announcement, SBOT calls Margaret Trudeau “a Canadian icon, celebrated both for her role in the public eye and as a respected mental-health issues advocate.
“From becoming a prime minister’s wife at a young age, to the loss of both her son and her former husband, to living with bi-polar disorder, Margaret tirelessly shares her personal stories to remind others of the importance of nurturing the body, mind, and spirit,” the organization says.
The Vancity-sponsored event will see awards in five categories, including Entrepreneur, Corporate/Leadership, Professional, Not-for-Profit Leader and Social Trailblazer.
The nomination deadline is Feb. 8.
Tickets for the event are $55 each via businessinsurrey.com or call 604.581.7130.
“This event recognizes the hard work of Surrey’s businesswomen and their contributions to the community,” the board states. “This event is for both men and women to attend.”
