Terrace’s local McDonald’s celebrated its grand re-opening this weekend.
The celebrations started Friday to mark the completion of more than $1 million dollars in renovations which started this summer.
While the restaurant was only closed for a total of eight days during the course of renovations, sections of the restaurant were closed off at various times, said owner Shauna Leblanc.
The renovation expenses are paid entirely from the franchisee’s pocket, she said.
A complete overhaul was done inside and out during renovations, involving structural, aesthetic components and utilities.
“We needed it,” said Leblanc. “There hasn’t been anything done to the building in 23 years.”
Leblanc said she plans to apply to the city for the downtown revitalization tax incentive, which is offered to businesses in Terrace’s commercial district who have spent more than $50,000 to improve property there.
The first day of celebrations at McDonalds, Friday, saw sales nearly double from an average $1000 per friday to $1700.
Ronald McDonald joined the celebration yesterday to cut cake and the grand-opening red ribbon.
“Yes, my feet really are this big,” he said.
