Many of us grew up with a milkman bringing bottles, bags or jugs of fresh milk to the doorstep, but the milkman of old eventually became relegated to the memory book.
But no longer.
Tim Dolan, of Dolan Home Delivery, is bringing memories back to reality with home delivery of milk to customers in Salmon Arm.
Already operating in Revelstoke, where he has approximately 250 loyal customers, Dolan has moved to Salmon Arm to expand his business. He has begun serving clients with home delivery of D Dutchman Dairy and Gort’s Gouda products.
“For a lot of people, it’s environmental. They like the glass bottles versus plastic, they like that it is a local product or they like organic — plus there’s the convenience of having it right on your doorstep and not having to take the glass bottles back to the store. I just pick them up,” says Dolan.
Freshness is also key.
“D Dutchmen produces their milk on Sundays, and I deliver in Salmon Arm Mondays, so it it literally 24-hours from cow to step.”
Gort’s Gouda Cheese also recently added certified organic cow’s milk to their cheese and other products.
“I’ll do delivery of all the Gort’s products,” says Dolan.
Most clients set up a regular standing order for the amount of milk, cheese or other dairy products they need, but this can be altered if needed.
Dolan was particularly attracted to Salmon Arm because of the abundance of local farms and specialty producers. He does some delivery of Wildflight Farms produce and is hoping to eventually expand his business into the delivery of other products like eggs and other specialty foods.
