Mission Chamber reps on hand to witness throne speech

Representatives joined local MLA Simon Gibson for a tour of the legislature.

The Mission Regional Chamber of Commerce is keeping its eyes on government as executive director Kristin Parsons and government affairs committee member Lesa Lacey attended last week’s speech from the throne in Victoria.

“It was a great experience and honour to attend the event and learn about the government’s plans leading into the next election in the coming months,” Lacey said.

The duo joined local MLA Simon Gibson for a tour of the legislature and watched the speech, which lays out the government’s priorities and plans, from the members’ gallery.

Lacey said it “was truly an exceptional experience.”

“Getting the opportunity to meet with ministers and talk about issues concerning our members was of great value for the Mission Chamber. We made great connections in Victoria that will assist the work we are doing for our members,” Parsons said.

The Mission Chamber was also watching closely when the unveiling of the provincial budget took place on Feb. 21.

The chamber will be providing an opportunity for businesses to discuss the budget with local MLAs Simon Gibson and Marc Dalton.

The event will take place March 10 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Mission Chamber boardroom.

Space is limited. A light lunch will be provided and there is no charge. However, the event is for members only.

Also, on May 2 at the Clarke Theatre, the Mission Chamber will host an all-candidates meeting to directly address all of the provincial candidates within the community’s two ridings.

This will be the best opportunity during this election to pose questions to the candidates and express the priorities and concerns identified by chamber members and by the business community as a whole.
