Mon Petit Choux in downtown Nanaimo up for sale

Commercial Street bakery and cafe is listed for $195,000

Downtown café Mon Petit Choux is on the market.

The 1,950-square foot French-style café and bakery located at 120 Commercial St. is for sale, listed for $195,000.

Dan Kucherka, a broker with NAI Commercial, told the News Bulletin that Mon Petit Choux’s current owners are looking to sell their business, but want to see it continue.

“They want someone to take it over,” he said.

Mon Petit Choux is located in what is known as the Gusola Block, a heritage building that was restored in 2006. Kucherka said the café moved into the building shortly after it was restored. He said the building adds a unique element to the business.

“There is a cool vibe in there. So it’s an interesting opportunity for someone who is prepared to take it over,” he said. “It is definitely one of the more interesting established businesses of its type downtown.”

Mon Petit Choux offers a variety of coffee, breakfast and lunch items as well as fresh baked goods.

Kucherka said while Mon Petit Choux is only open during the day, there is an opportunity for new owners to capture the evening and night market because the café has a liquor licence.

“[The liquor license] has not been utilized that well, so someone could, for sure, do something more at night time to take advantage of that liquor licence,” he said.

There is a “long-term” lease agreement in place for the café to remain at its current location, according to Kucherka. He said the café’s location makes it a less common offering.

“We have a variety of restaurants and coffee shops on the market but nothing like this with its unique background and where it is,” he said.
